Why Self Talk can be the Best Talk

If we look all over social media and other online portals, there has been a huge influx of posts about anti-body shaming and about loving yourself for you. But how do you exactly do that?

As human nature has it, we are always our worst critics, and it can take a turn for the worse sometimes and can affect us more than we actually think. So how can we feel better about ourselves and how do we genuinely love ourselves?

It may sound crazy, but it’s not. Over the years as I have gone through the ups and downs of valuing myself and realizing my own worth, I have come to realize that self-talk can be very beneficial for oneself, even if you have the tendency to point out what needs to be improved, but don’t be too harsh on yourself!

There are 2 types of self-talk: self-demeaning and self-knowing.

Self-Demeaning talk is usually the type of talk that may involve talking yourself down and critiquing yourself to the point that you make yourself feel as if you have no hope of improving. This type of talk can cause major self-esteem issues as well as produced super negative thoughts in your mind.

On the other hand, there is self-knowing talk. Self-knowing talk can be considered the type of talk that shows you the full picture of yourself. By knowing yourself, your abilities, peeves, ticks, you can be better at valuing yourself correctly and not demeaning your existence.

Examples of things to say during your self-knowing talk are:

“I know I have a tendency to _________, but I can’t let it get the best of me.”

“I have made mistakes in life, and I will be a better person now and in the future.”

“I need to work on _________ and focus more on ____________.”

“Even though I have my flaws, I am still a good person and I shouldn’t settle for any less than I deserve. No one is perfect, and neither am I, but I know I need to try my best to BE the best I can be.”

Don’t ever put yourself down. People make mistakes, learn from them, and grow all the time. You are no exception. Don’t ever cover up your own flaws. It’s most important to be honest with yourself so that you are able to realize who you really are and can make the right improvements in life. That’s the only way you will grow to become a more mature and better version of you!

Keep loving yourself, because at the end of the day, enjoying your own company can be the biggest blessing! So be happy and stress less!
